"Emergency Trench by Russell's tent."
The shadow at the top of the trench photo makes it look like a hole, but it actually is one end of the long trench I (Russell) dug alongside my tent so I could roll into the trench in case of enemy attack on the airfield. Having experienced strafing at airfields in England, I prepared for a possible raid here.
